Lyrics

Anchors Aweigh

Stand, Navy, out to sea, Fight our battle cry;
We'll never change our course, So vicious foe
steer shy-y-y-y.
Roll out the TNT, Anchors Aweigh.
Sail on to victory
And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray!

Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.
Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay.
Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam,
Until we meet once more,
Here's wishing you a happy voyage home.

Information About Anchors Aweigh

"Anchors Aweigh" is known as the fight song of the US Naval Academy and is closely associated with the US Navy.

The song was written in 1906 by Charles A. Zimmerman (music) and Alfred Hart Miles (words). Both men were serving at the US Naval Academy at the time and originally wrote the piece to be used as a football march.

"Anchors Aweigh" was first played during a football match in Philadelphia between the Army and-Navy in 1906.

The song was adopted unofficially by the US Navy but continues to be identified with the Academy.
