Lyrics

What Are Little Boys...

What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails,
And puppy dog tails,
That's what little boys are made of.

Information About What Are Little Boys...

"What Are Little Boys?' is a nursery rhyme that has its origin dating back to the early 19th-Century. This rhyme is part of a larger poem, attributed to English poet Robert Southey, called "What All the World Is Made Of" or "What Folks Are Made Of". In the different stanzas the verses describe what babies, young women, young men, soldiers, sailors, nurses, mothers, fathers, old women, old men, and all folks are made of.

Over the years there has been a variation on the words used to describe "what are little boys made of". In the original lyrics the first ingredient for boys is either nips" or "snigs", the latter being a Cumbrian dialect word for a small eel.
