Lyrics

Pat-a-cake Pat-a-cake

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can.
Roll it, and prick it, and mark it with a "B"
And put it in the oven for Baby and me!

Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man.
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it up, roll it up;
And throw it in a pan!
Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man.

Information About Pat-a-cake Pat-a-cake

"Pat-a-cake Pat-a-cake" is an old English nursery rhyme dating to at least the 17th century. The earliest record was from an appearance, by some of the lines from the rhyme, in Thomas D'Urfey's play "The Campaigners", dated 1698. A version of the rhyme closer to the one we are familiar with today appeared in "Mother Goose's Melody" around 1765.

Children will usually claps hands between themselves, while singing the rhyme, as a form of clapping game which can become quite complex.
